Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older, or 18% of the population. While anxiety disorders are highly treatable, only about one-third of those suffering receive treatment.
Many don't seek treatment because they don't realize they are suffering from anxiety, they don't know help is available for these symptoms, or, if they do know these things, they attach a stigma around finding professional help.
#ThisIsAnxiety is a campaign started by a group of Baltimore entrepreneurs in partnership with the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
By encouraging individuals to share their story with the hashtag #ThisIsAnxiety, we are aiming to empower people to recognize the signs of anxiety and reduce the stigma around seeking treatment.
Help raise awareness and increase treatment options for those suffering by sharing your #ThisIsAnxiety story, and making a donation to NAMI.
Thank you for your boldness in sharing. Every share helps to reassure people that they are not alone--that there are treatment options, and they don't need to be limited by their anxiety.
